Susan Davis
Appointed by the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives
Hon. Susan Davis is the former U.S. Representative for California’s 53rd Congressional District. During her tenure in the House of Representatives from 2001-2021, she was assigned to the United States House Armed Services Committee, where she served as the Chairperson and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel from 2007-2016. She also served on the Subcommittees on Seapower and Projection Forces, Strategic Forces, and Readiness. Davis was assigned to the Committee on Education and the Workforce from 2001-2020, where she served as the Chairperson and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development from 2016 -2020.
Prior to her election to the House of Representatives, Davis began her career in public office in 1983 by being elected to the board of the San Diego Unified School District. She later served in the California State Assembly from 1994-2000 and served as the Chair of the Committee on Consumer Protection, Government Efficiency and Economic Development.
Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Arts in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
