The Commission on Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) Reform Releases Status Update

Washington, DC – Today, March 2, 2023, the Commission on Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution Reform is pleased to release a Status Update to share observations and suggested changes provided to the Commission by stakeholders for addressing the multi-faceted aspects that make up the
PPBE process.
The Commission appreciates the active engagement and input provided by stakeholders to inform recommendations that will lead to improvements in the PPBE process used to field operational capabilities necessary to outpace strategic competitors, provide data and analytical insight, and support an integrated budget aligned with strategic defense objectives, as required by Section 1004 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022.
This Status Update does not contain any content that should be construed as a recommendation. The Commission is actively listening, conducting research, and is on track to deliver the Interim and Final Reports with findings and recommendations in August 2023 and March 2024, respectively, as required by law.

About the Commission on PPBE Reform
The Commission on Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) Reform was established by the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022 (Section 1004) with the purpose of examining the effectiveness of the PPBE process of the Department of Defense (DoD). A part of the Legislative Branch, the Commission reports to Congress on its activities in pursuit of fulfillment of the requirements of the legislation, to include providing an interim report and a final report. The Commission is currently comprised of thirteen Commissioners who bring a wealth of experience across the congressional, defense, budgeting, acquisition, and innovation ecosystem.
